Rachel Dobin, PR intern, spring 2015
With summer right around the corner and college graduates looking to transition to the real world, our spring semester PR intern Rachel Dobin is preparing to wrap up her time with us and collect her diploma from the University of Connecticut.
A native of New Jersey and senior pursuing a double major in journalism and communication, Rachel sought an internship at Mintz + Hoke to gain more hands-on experience while learning how integrated agencies leverage public relations. In addition to taking four classes in Storrs, Dobin earned credit for her internship through UConn’s Communication department.
“While I’ve learned a great deal from my classes at UConn, having industry related experience is what’s going to help me stand out to employers, and show them I’m qualified. I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to intern here and because of it, I feel better prepared for a career in public relations,” says Dobin.
Dobin worked alongside the PR team and her responsibilities included drafting news releases, sourcing and developing social media content, tracking social media performance, creating and maintaining media lists, helping develop editorial plans, calendars and special events, as well as attending client meetings and off-site events.
Mintz + Hoke remains in touch with many past interns and some have even been hired as full-time employees. “Interns bring a level of enthusiasm, curiosity and fresh insight that make them an invaluable resource to everything we do,” says Janette Baxter, management supervisor at Mintz + Hoke who heads the PR internship program.
