A Day in the Life at Mintz + Hoke: Administrative Edition
Like any business, a lot happens behind the scenes, and our two lovely administrative ladies handle things seamlessly. While what they do may not always be seen, their hard work and dedication don’t go unnoticed. Learn more about who they are and what they do in today’s Day in the Life.
First up is Stephanie (Steph) Clason, EA to CEO/Coordinator of Business Development, who has had a few stints with us — she was with us for 3.5 years, left, then realized she loved being part of the Mintz + Hoke family and has now been back for a year and a half!
When people from outside the advertising industry ask what you do, how do you describe your role?
I have the privilege of working with every department in our agency, so no day feels the same. One day I might be preparing a proposal for a new business opportunity, the next planning a companywide event or launching the latest IT security measures. I am constantly on my toes, and I wouldn’t change a thing!
What does the first hour of your day typically consist of? Are you reading the news, meditating, journaling, etc.?
It depends on which hour you are referring to! If you mean the first hour I am awake, then that would be an outdoor run (yes has to be outdoors because the fresh air makes such a difference) and getting my two boys ready for school (and sneaking in as much coffee as possible).
The first hour of my workday consists of catching up on emails that came in since I signed off the night before and sitting in on our daily agency meeting to understand what projects are moving through the agency that day.
Out of all the Mintz + Hoke core values—Inspire/Be Inspired, Embrace the Gray, Always Bring a Gift, Honor Respect, and Own It—which one resonates with you the most and why?
Honor Respect resonates the most with me because it’s what makes Mintz + Hoke feel like home. Everyone is treated with the utmost respect and honor. It’s the people that keep me here and the sole reason why I came back. There is no place like home, and Mintz + Hoke has always made me feel like family.
How do you embrace our Immersively Different philosophy in your day-to-day efforts?
I am always up for a challenge, and no matter what the task is, I make sure to get it done!
If you could give one piece of career advice, what would it be?
Make sure you work for an employer that not only respects your work ethic but also your personal life. When people from outside the agency ask me if M+H respects the work-life balance, I say, “There is no other place that honors family/personal life more than Mintz + Hoke.” As a single parent, I can’t even begin to describe how grateful I am to Mintz + Hoke (and most specifically Ron) for encouraging us to always put family first!
Where do you find inspiration?
In my kids! They are the reason for everything I do. I want them to have a mom they are proud of and one day be able to understand I work as hard as I do so I can provide them with everything and anything they need.
---------------
Now, meet our amazing Office Assistant of three years, Cate Alix.
When people from outside the advertising industry ask what you do, how do you describe your role?
I say I am part of the Mintz + Hoke team, I help people in the office, I am an office assistant, and I love my co-workers at Mintz + Hoke and my job.
What does the first hour of your day typically consist of? Are you reading the news, meditating, journaling, etc.?
I watch TV, have breakfast, and get ready for work.
Out of all the Mintz + Hoke core values—Inspire/Be Inspired, Embrace the Gray, Always Bring a Gift, Honor Respect, and Own It—which one resonates with you the most and why?
Always bring a gift — I love buying gifts for people. I love celebrating birthdays, holidays (my favorites are Halloween and Christmas), anniversaries, friendship anniversaries and having parties to celebrate every person I love.
How do you embrace our Immersively Different philosophy in your day-to-day efforts?
I am just me. I am Cate and I tell my sisters and my friends to “just be you.”
If you could give one piece of career advice, what would it be?
Do your best, don’t be afraid, and just be you!
Where do you find inspiration?
My boyfriend Andrew, Best Buddies, and my friends and family.
Thank you, Steph and Cate, for giving us a look behind the scenes. Next up, a Day in the Life of the Digital guys.
